Judo is one of the most underfunded sports in Malaysia.

Malaysia hasn't had a Southeast Asian (SEA) Games champion in judo in over 40 years. This has resulted in a chicken-and-egg situation where judo gets no funding due to no results, and no results due to no funding.

But we do not believe all hope is lost. We aim to change things with KL Judo's Project Gold 2025. This fundraising project is a private initiative by KL Judo Centre, a sports-oriented dojo in Kuala Lumpur, to produce high-level athletes who can compete and win at the international stage. In 2022, without any government funding, we managed to produce 6 National Champions. And in 2023, we produced a Southeast Asian Junior Champion (again, without any government funding).

We are launching this fundraising campaign so we can build upon the minor successes we have achieved so far. Our hope is to eventually break the chicken-and-egg problem by producing a Southeast Asian Games champion by 2025. In doing so, we hope that it will lead to judo being funded across Malaysia.

We ask for your support. Funds raised through this campaign will go towards providing full-time coaching, equipment, and competition-related expenses – all necessary to raise our athletes to the level they need to be to start winning at the international stage.

No amount is too small. Any help will be greatly appreciated. If you like what we are doing, please share this page with your friends and colleagues. Thank you.

Malaysian Judo comes in last in SEA Games

Update posted by Oon Yeoh at 05:18 pm

The SEA Games in Cambodia is over and sad to say, Malaysia came in last place among 9 nations that took part in the judo event. This is the worst showing for Malaysian judo in history. Nearly 6000km away in Doha, the World Championships just concluded too. There, a judoka. . . . .

Click on this link: https://kljudo.com/classical-contest-seoi-nages/ to see an example of the type of training we offer our players. Judo is a sport where there are established classical techniques. Some of these techniques date back to 1882, when judo was founded. Obviously, a lot has changed since then and many different

  • Sensei Oon Yeoh - I am assuming you know your efforts to bring Judo in Malaysia to another level are highly respected and appreciated. Your students love the way you treat them, your efforts, your dedication to the sport, and your willingness to share your expertise; in simple words, make you a role example to be followed. Thanks for everything you do, and much more coming your way because people like you deserve it.
